UEFA Champions League: Real Madrid script 5-2 comeback win as Liverpool implode, Napoli win

Real Madrid scripted a memorable 5-2 comeback win in the UEFA Champions League over Liverpool on Tuesday as Jurgen Klopp’s men imploded at Anfield.

Karim Benzema and Vinicius Jr. bagged braces as Liverpool threw away a 2-0 lead in the game and capitulated in front of their fans.

In a rematch of last season’s final, The Reds were looking to bank on the home advantage and had a dream start to the match. Darwin Nunez put Klopp’s men in front in the fourth minute of the game after the Uruguayan produced a clever flick. Anfield then erupted 10 minutes later as an error from Thibaut Courtois was punished by Mohamed Salah as Liverpool looked to be in cruise control of the tie.

However, the current Champions League holders decided to flip the scrip with Vinicius Jr. opening the scoring for them. The Brazilian forward got into the box and unleashed a sublime strike into the back of the net. 15 minutes later, Alisson had a moment to forget as his attempt at a clearance ricocheted off Vinicius Jr into the back of the net to make it 2-2.

Madrid started the second half in the perfect way possible as Eder Militao produced a superb header to give the visitors the lead in the 47th minute.

Benzema then got into the act and made it 4-2 in the 55th minute before sealing the game 12 minutes later.

Napoli secured a comfortable 2-0 away win over Eintrach Frankfurt to continue their great run of form. Victor Osimhen was once again amongst the goals as he gave the Italian side the lead in the 40th minute of the game. The home side were then reduced to 10 men as star man Randal Kolo Muani was sent off in the 58th minute.

Giovanni di Lorenzo then settled the first leg in the 65th minute as Napoli head into the return fixture with a 2-0 lead.
