SUN Mobility SwapX Technology At Auto Expo 2023: Sun Mobility unveiled two revolutionary and future-proof electric mobility solutions SwapX and S2.1 at the Auto Expo. Where SwapX is a compact station where all the problems related to EV will be solved. Whereas, the S2.1 is a higher powered battery, which claims up to 45 percent more range. At the Auto Expo, we got in touch with Sun Mobility’s Co-Founder Chetan Maini and CEO Anant Barjatya. During this, he told about the present status and future plans from the purpose of establishment of the company, about which you should also know.
Question- Tell us in detail about Sun Mobility’s journey so far, vision and contribution towards the EV ecosystem.
answer- With a shared vision to make electric mobility affordable and accessible to the masses, Sun Mobility entered the EV ecosystem in the year 2017 through a joint venture between SUN Group and Maini Group. We understand the key challenges hindering large-scale EV adoption and focus on addressing them through cutting-edge battery swapping solutions. Our journey so far has been focused on providing and promoting a faster, cheaper and more convenient way to refuel electric vehicles through battery swapping.
Our vision is to build a worldwide network of interoperable energy infrastructure to enable mass adoption of electric mobility. To achieve this, we have taken the approach of separating the battery from the vehicle through a quick battery swapping model. This enables us to address the challenges associated with switching to EVs, such as high upfront cost, range concerns, lack of energy infrastructure, technology obsolescence and long charging times. Over the years, Sun Mobility has created a revolutionary business model and offerings such as Battery as a Service (BaaS), ‘pay-as-you-go’ systems for battery usage and end-to-end mobility (MaaS). and has significantly contributed to the EV ecosystem as a service solution for commercial two-wheelers and three-wheelers. We continue to move closer to our vision through innovative solutions and strategic partnerships with organizations working with a shared vision to electrify India and the world.
Question- 2 How will the new launch strengthen the EV ecosystem and enable a paradigm shift on clean electric mobility?
answer: Every new product we launch at Sun Mobility is conceptualised, manufactured and launched with an aim to fuel the transition to electric mobility at an accelerated pace. SwapX and S2.1, the latest additions to our existing offerings, will redefine how we look at urban mobility with enhanced access and safety for our users.
SUN Mobility with SwapX opens doors to franchisees to be a part of the EV revolution and help increase network density to address range concerns. SwapX is a compact battery-swapping solution that complements Sun Mobility swap points at locations to enhance the local EV ecosystem. With its launch, we aim to increase the density of swap points and strengthen access. With a packed down design, SwapX is portable and can be placed in every nook and corner of the city. Essentially, it serves as an easy plug-and-play solution. This works brilliantly to empower partners who have limited space challenges such as pharmacy chains, department stores, garages, etc. to easily install and manage Sun Mobility’s battery-swapping units. With SwapX, Sun Mobility creates an opportunity for franchisees to be a part of the EV revolution and help increase network density to address range concerns.
Our other new offering, the S2.1, is a next generation battery pack that comes with higher battery power that provides 45% more range. Both our new offerings have been created and launched keeping in mind the need for better accessibility and improved safety for the demands of urban mobility. They address the micro needs of a large customer base, especially small and medium businesses as well as micro-entrepreneurs who can set up and manage Sun Mobility swap points from the convenience of their store. Launched as a franchising model, the new offering from Sun Mobility will enhance the network density of battery-swapping stations and contribute significantly in encouraging large-scale EV adoption.
Q-3 What will be the impact of the new announcements on the company’s business for FY23?
answer- The launch of SwapX and S2.1 reinforces our commitment to building interoperable battery-swapping solutions to accelerate the widespread adoption of electric vehicles. As an advanced next generation swapping solution, SwapX greatly reduces the capital requirement needed to grow a swap point network. The offering requires low investment, minimal real estate and electrical infrastructure and is targeted towards small and medium retail business outlets as well as franchisee model tie-ups with micro-entrepreneurs, thereby increasing the density of Sun Mobility Swap Point TMs. will increase. Our new Smart Battery S2.1 also comes with a number of functional and technical improvements, the most important of which is a 45% increased capacity. Overall, both products further increase the speed of expansion, reduce capital investment and enable new products on our platform. It improves the overall Sun Mobility customer experience while contributing to our growth. They are also aligned with our mission to enable 1 million EV adoption by 2025.
Question- 4 Share an insight related to Sun Mobility’s India operations. Comment on your development, current plans and roadmap ahead.
answer- Since inception, we have worked closely with state transmission utilities, fleet operators, shared mobility providers and automotive OEMs to provide affordable, scalable and smart ways to address the issues hindering EV adoption. Today, Sun Mobility is a leading provider of energy infrastructure solutions in India with over 210 Swap Point TM and over 240 Quick Interchange Stations (QIS) spread across 18 cities including Delhi, Bengaluru, Gurgaon, Chandigarh, Trivandrum, Calicut and Noida . Through our extensive network of swap stations, we have enabled over 2.7 million battery swapped and powered electric vehicles to cover over 54 million emission-free kilometers in India.
Sun Mobility currently has the widest and densest network in Delhi-NCR with over 176 swap points. By March 2023, we are planning to set up 200 swapping stations in Delhi, which will be built at a distance of every 2 kilometers. Also, we are looking at setting up 80 swap stations in Bengaluru. We aim to set up 500 swap points by FY 23 and 3,000 swap points by FY 24. We are also targeting to deploy 40,000 batteries by FY23 and 3,00,000 batteries by FY24. Making this plan a success will bring us closer to our vision of installing 16,000 battery swap stations that will enable more than 3 million swaps per day by 2025.
