Arunachal does not lack sporting talents. This can be gauged from the fact that many players have made it to national and international levels.
These sportspersons have battled all odds to reach to the top given the fact that facilities of any kinds is nil in the state.
Apart from one SAI academy in the state, that too lacking in facilities, sportspersons have practically no other options apart from training outside.
The scene is so dismal that many do not even have coaches. Despite funds constrains, sporting associations in the state have been the ones to take care of these youngsters.
To start with, if the state is serious about training its youngsters to achieve their full potential in games and sports, it is necessary that sports are made part of the school curriculum in a proper way.
The government must also ensure that ministry of sports and youth affairs is fully geared up in order to tap the potential of the sportspersons in the state.
The department so far has not been seen doing enough. Constrains could be many but it is essential that efforts are made to tap the potential.
The state government must also see to that incentives are given to the youngsters who excel in their chosen sports field. Many talents have given up because of the fact that sports don’t guarantee a good career alternative.
If we cannot assure our budding sportspersons that sports can be taken up as a career choice, there is little hope that we would see sporting stars shine.
A start must be made.
