Self control & the crime

Like many irresistible urges, the commitment of crime also subscribe to irresistible urges. It is also outcome of a low level of self resistivity & control. Criminals, in most of the cases cannot say no to crime due to low level of self-control. The theories of criminology & psychology suggest that there is a close link between self-control & crime. The lack of self-control embedded with the motivation of committing crimes; guides the people for creating criminal intentions.
Low self-control features most strongly as an explanation for intentions to commit a crime. Self- control is an important aspect and even of greater significance in controlling the crimes in the society. This is especially related to the expectations of significant others and the willingness of the individual to comply with those expectations. The factor seems to be crucial as to whether a person with low self- control gets involved in crime or not.
The little understood relationships between the self control & the criminal activities could now suggest possibilities for the treatment and prevention of criminal attitude & behaviour. The criminologists also find that low self-control is one of the strongest risk factor in urging the crime. Hence this is a major concern area to be studied further to find out a perfect relationship between the two which ultimately can stop the initiation of many criminal activities.
There are two things on this context to be taken care of seriously. First one – to rehabilitate the criminals with endorsement of self-control programmes & second to devise befitting educational programmes to teach self- control from the primary education till the highest educational level. Self management techniques ultimately create role models who in turn become the powerful personalities to influence the society in a positive way. Hence it is mandatory to have self-control to wipe out the crimes.
