The American company’s electric van made the fastest lap at the Mount Panorama race track in Australia, beating its rival Mercedes-AMG. This is a big win for both Ford itself and electric vehicle manufacturers in general.
SuperVan 4.2 set three registered records at once. The almost 6.5 km long track is located in New South Wales and is characterized by sharp changes in elevation – the lowest and highest points are located at a distance of 171 meters from each other. This creates additional difficulties for cars and drivers when passing the route.
The Ford Performance SuperVan 4.2 was the winner, completing one lap in 1:56.3247—0.28 seconds faster than the previous record. The record was set in three categories at once – for cars with closed wheels, commercial vehicles and electric vehicles. During the race, the electric car exceeded the speed mark of 299 km/h.
SuperVan 4.2 is equipped with three electric motors with a total output of more than 1,400 horsepower. The electric car is based on the Ford e-Transit Custom and is equipped with a large carbon fiber spoiler. Downforce in this model reaches 4,400 pounds at a speed of 241 km/h.
A similar record was achieved at the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb in 2023. Ford intends to continue demonstrating the SuperVan 4.2’s capabilities at its Victorian Proving Ground, Adelaide Motorsport Festival and the Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix. Lessons learned from the SuperVan in Australia will be used to inform the next generation of Ford electric vehicles.
