Assembly Election 2023 Results Live Updates, Tripura, Meghalaya, Nagaland: It has been over three hours since counting began, and the BJP and its allies continue to maintain a lead in  Tripura and Nagaland, where they are ahead in 33 and 34 seats respectively.  Meanwhile, in Meghalaya the NPP has managed to widen its lead. At present, it is ahead in 21 seats, followed by the UDP in 8, according to NDTV.

Here is what the exit polls predict: the BJP is tipped to retain Tripura, return to power in Nagaland with coalition partner National Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) and marginally improve its tally in Meghalaya, while the Congress, which once dominated the Northeast, is headed for a wipeout in all three states.

Meghalaya, where a hung assembly is predicted, is expected to witness the most closely-contested battle. While the ruling NPP is predicted to end up with 20 seats, its alliance partner, the BJP, which fought the elections separately, may increase its tally from two to 6. Meanwhile in Tripura, the BJP is expected to scrape past the halfway mark, winning 32 seats in the 60-member Assembly, while the TIPRA Motha is predicted to get 13 seats, leaving the newly-formed Left-Congress alliance with just 15 seats. Nagaland is one state where the NDPP-BJP coalition looks poised to return with a comfortable majority of 42 seats in the 60-member House. A total of 352 candidates contested for 52 seats each in Meghalaya and Nagaland. Meanwhile, Tripura’s multi-cornered contest saw 259 candidates in the fray to fill 60 seats.
