ADB watershed project for Arunachal approved: Centre

Itanagar, June 27: Government of India has got all proposals of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) through for Arunachal, said Union Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee. With this the $60 million Watershed Management Project has also been approved. He said that this is ‘good news’ for the people of Arunachal Pradesh. The minister informed this when a delegation led by Chief Minister Dorjee Khandu called on at his North Block office this evening.
The Delegation reiterated the State Government demands for release of ‘Green Bonus’ in the form of ‘Untied Funds’ to settle matters concerning State’s development. After prolonged discussion the Union Finance Minister agreed that utmost care as demanded in Green Bonus package could be taken up on priority basis. The Chief Minister urged the Union Minister for finalization of the report submitted by the Empowered Committee for the grant of Green Bonus to mitigate state’s problem.
The Chief Minister also submitted second proposal for immediate sanction of funds of 500 crore border area funds which was announced by the former Union Finance Minister.
Chief Minister further asked the Union Finance Minister and Ministry of DoNER to release the funds for Foot Suspension Bridges in Arunachal Pradesh, Development of Tezu Airport and 132 KV transmission line from Tawang to Khuppi
The meeting which lasted for 40 minutes ended in a positive note, said a release.
The chief minister was accompanied by Members of Parliament Takam Sanjoy, Ninong Ering, Minister of RWD Chowna Mein, Minister of Industry and Social welfare Tanga Byaling, MLAs Nikh Kamin, and Bosiram Siram, Principal Resident Commissioner Avinash Kumar Mishra,.
Member of Parliament Takam Sanjoy informed that the same team headed by the Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh, would be meeting Prime Minister of India Dr. Manmohan Singh, Union Minister for DoNER B.K.Handique, Union Home Minister P.Chidambaram and Union Minister of Food and Civil Supplies Sharad Pawar within the next 3-4 days. The State Government is trying to get maximum proposals approved and Sanctions released before the assembly elections takes place in October, a message said.
