Ineffective monitoring

The row over the irregularities, corruption & favouritism of All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) officials has really tarnished the image of the pioneer regulating & advisory body to a great extent. The AICTE was formed as a statutory body & grant recognition to technical institutions in India. But the noble mission is handicapped by the sheer negligence, selfishness, arrogance & corruption of handful of officials.

The recent stripping of power of AICTE by Education ministry is really a welcome step. The favouritism, especially while granting recognition & increase of student intake was a burning issue for quite some time from now. The premier body is already in the scanner of CBI for corruption & now stripping power of AICTE just adds salt to already existing injury. The Human Resource ministry has ordered that recognized technical institutions can expand on their own on condition of further inspections.

This is in fact a great decision by Human Resource Ministry which shall clip the AICTE’s wings following accusations that delays in granting expansion leading to corruption. AICTE was set up under acts of parliament for very purpose of granting approval to technical institutions in India excepting IITs & IIMs. But in due course of time the pious organization has become the epitome of corruption in different forms & feathers.

Now the biggest issue is why monitoring agencies wait till the odds happen? Why can’t they be efficient enough to take precautions & measures before hand, so that irregularities do not happen. In Indian monitoring system, this is perhaps the biggest lacuna, by which most of the premier organizations have been infected. Taking the advantage of the loopholes, the officials, drive their organizations to their stride only to benefit them, not the mass. Hence let the monitoring agencies wake up from slumberous night & act, enact & react only to phase out the irregularities.
