CBI-ED working independently, no interference by any ministry: Amit Shah on Opposition allegations

Union Home Minister Amit Shah said at the India Today Conclave on Friday that all central investigative agencies were working independently without any interference from any ministry. Shah was responding to a question on the Opposition’s allegations of “misuse” of probe agencies such as the CBI and the ED by the BJP-led central government.

“People are seeing everything and will give their mandate. All the central investigative agencies are working independently. Nobody is interfering in their work. I just want to urge everyone to follow the path of justice. That is the only way,” Amit Shah said.

“In 2017, during the UP election, a top Congress leader asked: ‘If we have been corrupt, why has there been no action against us?’ Questions were asked of us. Now that action is being taken, they are protesting… You can challenge any notice you get. You can challenge any FIR in court. You can contest any chargesheet in court,” Shah said, adding, “Who is stopping them from going to the courts? We have fewer lawyers, but they have a lot of good ones.”

“I want to ask the people of the country whether or not action should be taken if agencies find that a person has been involved in corruption. All the cases, barring two, were filed during the tenure of the people who are protesting now (against action by probe agencies). The first FIRs were filed during their time,” Shah said.

The Opposition has been up in arms against the BJP after several of their ministers and leaders were arrested across the country in connection with several scams.
