Kailasa participated as NGO, won’t consider its inputs: UN panel on Nithyananda’s ‘country’

The United Nations (UN) on Wednesday responded to the queries about rape-accused Nithyananda’s delegation attending public meetings in Geneva in February, saying that the inputs provided by the organisation of the ‘self-proclaimed’ figure will not be taken into consideration.

Nithyananda is facing rape and kidnapping charges and is absconding from the police in India. He fled the country in 2019. Later, he founded what he calls the “nation of Kailasa”, an amorphous entity that is reportedly located on an island off the Pacific coast of Central America.

The fugitive godman claims to represent “two billion Hindus” in the nation of Kailasa.

“General discussions are public meetings open to anyone interested to participate in person and/or to provide written submissions. The purpose of a general discussion is to allow independent experts of the respective Committees to answer questions and hear the views of various stakeholders prior to the drafting of a General Comment, which is a guide to assist States parties in fulfilling their obligations on specific issues or themes,” UN said in an official response to India Today.

“Their written submission to the Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) will not be published as it is irrelevant to the topic of the general discussion,” Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights in Geneva said.
