The next generation of the Volkswagen Golf, including the sporty version of the Golf R, will use electric propulsion, according to Autonews.ru citing Autocar.uk.
More specifically, Volkswagen plans to release a higher-riding, all-wheel-drive and sporty version of the upcoming Volkswagen ID 2 that will essentially replace the Volkswagen Golf R.
In 2024, the last restyling is planned for the eighth generation of the Volkswagen Golf, after which the model is waiting for a generational change that will take place before the end of this decade. Volkswagen Golf will lose the internal combustion engine and switch to electric motors. It will be positioned in the brand’s electric vehicle line at a level below the current ID.3.
According to preliminary data, the electric Volkswagen Golf R will be built on the MEB platform, which supports a layout with two electric motors.
Recall that in 2021, Volkswagen introduced the ID.X sports electric car concept with a 333 hp power plant, which was supposed to replace the Golf R. Now, the new Volkswagen Golf R is expected to be smaller.
