EVs to account for 100 per cent of three-wheeler sales in Assam by 2025: Study

Washington: Assam can achieve 100 percent electric three wheeler sales by 2025. In this way Assam will become the first state in the country to achieve this feat. This has been concluded in a study by a top US university. The study by the India ZEV Research Center at the University of California Davis said that 85 per cent of newly sold three-wheelers in Assam were electric in the current fiscal year till January 2023.

It is among the three states to achieve this high figure in any one segment. The other two are Uttarakhand and Chandigarh. At the current pace, Assam is likely to achieve 100 per cent electric three-wheeler sales by 2025, the study said. It will be the first state not only in the country but also in the world to achieve such a feat.

Importantly, the sale of electric three-wheelers continues to boom in Assam after recovering from the pandemic. More than 25 states in India have now announced their electric vehicle policy. As a policy, these states are giving subsidy on the purchase of electric vehicles. Apart from this, they are also giving incentives for tax benefits and charging structure. (agency)
