Kaspersky Lab shared some interesting statistics on the results of the past year. As the press service notes, at least 730 organizations around the world suffered from targeted ransomware attacks in the fourth quarter of 2022.
Only eight major cybercriminal groups are responsible for half of these attacks, including Clop (TA 505), Hive, Lockbit, RagnarLocker, BlackByte and BlackCat, Pysa and Conti/Ryuk. The LockBit group turned out to be the most “productive”, the number of victims of this ransomware over the history of its existence exceeds a thousand. Cybercriminals from LockBit target industries such as aviation, energy and consulting services. Geographic coverage – from the USA, China, India, Indonesia, to the countries of Central and North-Western Europe.
Head of Advanced Threat Research at Kaspersky Lab Nikita Nazarov said:
Ransomware continues to be one of the key threats. We have done a lot of analytical work on this type of malware and have found that their techniques and tactics are largely the same and do not change over a long period of time.
